Answer three questions. The recommendation routes to the exact Taokron models for your duct — every figure is from the Taokron Product Catalog 2026, and you go straight to the product page or a quote.
Stainless variant: 304 or 316 stainless option available across all four models — adds 8-15% to base machine price.
TDF flange former vs Pittsburgh lockformer
Most duct shops need both. They serve different functions in the duct fabrication workflow:
TDF flange former (transverse flange): Roll-forms a TDF flange directly into the rectangular duct edge, replaces welded angle iron flange. Output approximately 4 m/min on 1.0 mm galvanised. Used for tight-leakage SMACNA Class A applications: data centre, semiconductor, pharma cleanroom, modern commercial. Entry-tier capital cost — request a quote.
Pittsburgh lockformer (longitudinal seam): Forms the Pittsburgh lock seam that closes the rectangular section, the standard longitudinal seam for rectangular duct since the 1920s. Output approximately 8 m/min on 1.0 mm galvanised. Used on virtually all rectangular duct including modern. Entry-tier capital cost — request a quote.
SBAL-V if you need 0.5–1.5 mm gauge including stainless, U-shape continuous flow, single-operator running and 18 m/min line speed (40 kW total drive). SBAL-III if you need 0.5–2.0 mm gauge with hydraulic notching and shearing at 18 m/min (10.7 kW total drive), you have mixed work types (commercial + occasional industrial), and you want a 25-30% lower capital outlay than SBAL-V. See SBAL-V vs SBAL-III detailed comparison for the full analysis.
Which SBTF spiral tubeformer model should I buy?
SBTF-1500: round duct Φ80-1500 mm, saw blade cutting, the entry-level workhorse for general commercial. SBTF-1500C: Φ100-1500 mm, plasma cutter + saw blade cutting, for higher-spec galvanized + stainless work. SBTF-1602: Φ80-1600 mm with plasma cut and flying slitter, large-diameter commercial, hospital, data centre and semiconductor support duct. SBTF-2020: Φ80-2500 mm with patented flying slitter and automatic length control, very-large-diameter for tunnel ventilation, mining main shaft and heavy industrial. Match diameter range to your largest expected work plus 25% headroom.
TDF flange former or Pittsburgh lockformer?
TDF flange former produces an integrated transverse flange that eliminates the welded angle iron joint. Faster installation, tighter SMACNA Class A leakage compliance, used as standard on data centre, semiconductor, pharma cleanroom and modern commercial projects. Pittsburgh lockformer produces a longitudinal seam that closes the rectangular section. Both are typically required for a complete duct shop — they perform different functions, not alternatives. The decision is which one to buy first if budget is constrained: TDF flange former for tier-1 commercial and tight-leakage projects, Pittsburgh lockformer for general commercial and budget-constrained projects.
What is the total package cost for a complete duct shop?
A complete duct shop package depends on the machines you select. A tier-1 commercial shop fabricating both rectangular and round duct typically combines an SBAL-V auto duct line, an SBTF-1602 spiral tubeformer, a TDF flange former, a Pittsburgh lockformer and auxiliary tooling — a turnkey-tier package. A budget shop typically combines an SBAL-III, an SBTF-1500 and a lockformer — an entry-to-mid-tier package. Which machines should an aspiring duct shop buy first?
For a new entrant: start with SBAL-III auto duct line (the most flexible across volume ranges) plus a Pittsburgh lockformer for longitudinal seam closure. This minimum viable shop can fabricate rectangular duct for the bulk of commercial projects at an entry-tier capital outlay. Add an SBTF-1500 spiral tubeformer in year 2 to expand into round duct. Upgrade to SBAL-V in year 3-5 once volume grows. The key principle: start narrower, expand as project volume justifies. Request a quote for pricing on your configuration.
Are stainless variants available for cleanroom and food projects?
Yes, most Taokron machine families are available in stainless-capable configuration: SBAL-V stainless (304L and 316L tooling, reduced-speed cutting blades, stainless-compatible lubrication), SBTF spiral tubeformer stainless (304L and 316L mandrel and forming rollers), TDF flange stainless. Stainless adds approximately 8-15% to the base machine price and extends lead time by 10-15 days. Required for pharma cleanroom, semiconductor, food contact, marine, hydrogen ATEX zones.
What if I need very large diameter (>2,500 mm) duct?
SBTF-2020 covers up to Phi 2,500 mm, which is sufficient for most tunnel ventilation main supply, mining decline portals and industrial ventilation. For very large diameter (3-5 m) main shafts in major rail tunnel and hydropower projects, specialist large-diameter rolling equipment is required which is beyond Taokron's standard SBTF range. Taokron supplies the up-to-2,500mm portion and the buyer's tunnel specialist supplies the larger shafts. Email sales@taokron.com to discuss specific large-diameter requirements.
How do I get a custom quotation?
Email sales@taokron.com or use the contact form with: your project type (commercial / data centre / pharma / heavy industrial / etc.), your throughput target (m²/day or m²/year), your typical duct dimensions (rectangular max width, round max diameter), your coil specification (gauge, material, supplier mill cert if available), and your destination port. Taokron engineers reply within 12 hours with an indicative landed-cost worksheet for your country including ocean freight, marine insurance, customs entry and installation supervision quoted per engineer-day. Final binding quotations require a follow-up technical clarification.
