Why Kyrgyzstan in 2026
Kyrgyzstan's construction sector is growing much faster than its economy as a whole. Akchabar, citing National Statistical Committee estimates, reported construction volume up 60.6% year on year in January to July 2026, with construction's share of GDP rising from 6.2% to 8.2%. Preliminary figures like these get revised, and growth can come from a low base, but the direction is clear: more buildings, and more buildings that need ventilation ductwork.
Named projects give a feel for the mix. Check each one before you count on it, because schedules in the region slip.
- New Osh Bazaar, Bishkek: a market and shopping complex of 155,000 m2, two storeys plus an underground level and more than 10,000 retail units, reported in May 2026 as due for completion by August 2026. Large retail halls are some of the most duct-heavy spaces there are.
- Bishkek Arena: a stadium for about 51,000 spectators with a three-storey shopping centre. In March 2026 24.kg reported retail space sales starting in April 2026 and construction completion planned for late August 2026. We could not confirm the current status.
- Healthcare: the Health Minister said in July 2026 that 42 healthcare facilities are under construction, including perinatal centres in Osh and Talas. The Bishkek mayor's office has said it will build a new hospital on Fuchika Street in 2026, and has planned 10 kindergartens and 36 school projects. Operating theatres and wards need clean, tightly sealed duct.
- Osh: a new passenger terminal of about 25,000 m2 at Osh airport, with completion planned for summer 2026 in an early-2026 report, and the Osh-City IT town, a mixed development of housing, commercial and social buildings with a first phase of 22 blocks planned for summer 2026.
We did not find a verifiable named hotel project in Bishkek or Osh for 2026, so we do not list one. Housing, offices and retail are the everyday work of most duct shops. Standards and codes for ductwork in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan inherited the Soviet SNiP system and still works mainly in Russian. Projects are designed to the construction standards of the Kyrgyz Republic (SN KR and the older SNiP KR and SP KR documents), together with interstate GOST standards shared across the region. On projects designed abroad, read the specification: it may call up SMACNA or EN standards instead.
The ventilation document we found is CN 41-04:2022, "Heating, ventilation and air conditioning", a revised edition of SNiP 2.04.05-91. It covers heating, cooling, ventilation, air conditioning and smoke ventilation in new and renovated buildings. Our copy was an English translation with an incomplete date of introduction, and we could not confirm its legal status from public sources, so treat the figures below as a guide to what Kyrgyz designers expect and check the edition named in your project. For a duct shop, three parts matter:
- Minimum steel thickness (Appendix K): for air up to 80 °C in folded ducts, rectangular duct with a larger side up to 250 mm is 0.5 mm, 300 to 1,000 mm is 0.7 mm and 1,250 to 2,000 mm is 0.9 mm. Round duct runs from 0.5 mm up to 200 mm diameter, through 0.7 mm at 500 to 800 mm and 1.0 mm at 900 to 1,250 mm, to 1.4 mm at 1,800 to 2,000 mm. The aspect ratio of rectangular duct should not exceed 1 to 4. These are minimums; compare them with our gauge chart.
- Fire-rated duct: ducts with a rated fire resistance limit use sheet steel of at least 0.8 mm, and non-combustible materials are required for transit sections, collectors and ducts in plant rooms, attics and basements.
- Leakage classes A to D: class A can apply to ducts inside the room they serve at pressure differences up to 150 Pa, class B to ducts outside the ventilated space, and class C where the pressure difference passes 1,500 Pa, with class D the tightest. Seams, flanges and sealing must hold those classes; see our air leakage classes guide.
Seismic design matters too. Bishkek is in an active seismic region, and Kyrgyz seismic codes such as SN KR 20-02:2018 apply to buildings, which in practice means attention to duct hangers and bracing. Importing duct machinery: EAEU duty, VAT and EAC
Kyrgyzstan joined the Eurasian Economic Union in 2015, so machines arriving from outside the union are cleared under the EAEU Common Customs Tariff and the union's technical regulations.
- Customs duty: the duty depends on the full 10-digit code, which differs by machine type. We do not quote a rate here. Ask your customs broker to classify each machine against the current tariff before you budget.
- Import VAT: the basic VAT rate in Kyrgyzstan is 12%, and the National Investment Agency states it applies to imports. A tax summary by PwC notes that some imports of technological equipment for a company's own production use may be VAT exempt. Conditions apply, so ask your tax adviser whether your purchase qualifies.
- EAC conformity: machinery is normally declared under technical regulation TR CU 010/2011, usually together with TR CU 004/2011 (low-voltage equipment) and TR CU 020/2011 (electromagnetic compatibility). The declaration is registered by an applicant based in the union, usually your importer or a local representative, and needs a safety justification and technical file. Once declared, the machine carries the EAC mark.

Power supply: 50 Hz
Kyrgyzstan's supply is 50 Hz with 220 V on single phase sockets. Three phase industrial equipment across the former Soviet region is normally 380 V, but voltage and transformer capacity vary by site, so measure at your workshop and tell us. We wire the motors, drives and control transformer to suit, and set motor speeds and cycle times for 50 Hz. Check that your connection can carry an auto duct line and a spiral tubeformer together before you add the second machine, and consider a voltage stabiliser for PLC-controlled lines if your supply is not steady. Typical shop set-ups and the machines that fit
Contractor shop, rectangular duct for housing blocks and fit-outs
A practical first set is a Rectangular Duct Line II SBAL-II or Auto Duct Line SBAL-III, which takes coil to cut, notched and beaded rectangular duct, with a Pittsburgh lockformer (SBLC series) for seams, a TDF flange forming machine for joints, and a pneumatic folder for fittings. Add a duct zipper for TDF corners and seam closing and a corner machine and one small crew can serve several sites.
Standards drive some choices. The leakage classes in CN 41-04 mean seams and corners must be tight and sealed, and the minimum thicknesses above sit comfortably within what these machines form. If your designers also specify stiffening beads on larger rectangular sides, add a grooving and beading machine, and for rail-style joints familiar from Russian-language practice, a transverse duct connector flange forming machine.
Volume shop for retail halls, hospitals and large projects
Shops chasing packages like large retail complexes or hospitals need output and consistent quality across thousands of square metres. The Auto Duct Line SBAL-V runs coil to finished panel, a Plasma Cutter SBPC1550 cuts fittings from nested drawings, and a hydraulic folder handles heavier gauges and long bends. A spot welder secures seam ends where the specification asks for it.
Round duct
Spiral duct suits exposed ceilings, car parks, warehouses and industrial extract. Add a Spiral Tubeformer SBTF-1500 or SBTF-1602 once round duct is regular work, with the Spiral Duct Flanging Machine SBFB-1600 for flanged ends. Labour and space
Manual rectangular duct means several handling steps per section: shear, notch, bead, fold, seam, fit joints. An auto duct line combines most of them, so the same output needs fewer skilled hands, which matters where construction is growing fast and experienced sheet metal workers are in demand. On space, the auto duct line is the longest item, with coil racks at one end and a run-out table at the other, and a spiral tubeformer needs run-out length for full duct sections. Winters in Bishkek and the northern valleys are cold, so keep machines and coil stock in a heated hall: hydraulic oil thickens in the cold and coil brought in from a frozen yard sweats when it warms.
